Building Transition UpdatesIn 2013, the congregation entered into discussion about the possible sale of the Ranchlands facility through an intentional congregational renewal process. In 2016, the Ranchlands building was sold to the Muslim Association of Canada, and the Calgary congregation relocated to Lion's Village at 2528 Bowness Rd. NW as a temporary location.
A Facility Planning Team has been established to help facilitate this transition, and the congregation has entered into an acquisition process as it seeks to relocate to a new space. This purpose of this page is twofold:

Greetings – The Facility Planning Team remains on schedule with Step 4: Feasibility Study in the Space Planning Phase. The purpose of this communication is to provide the congregation with an update on the topic of the Feasibility Study (presented at the March 18, 2018 Business Meeting). For the purposes of the Feasibility Study, the Facility Planning Team has identified, selected, and contracted with professional groups in following four areas:
Members of the Facility Planning Team have met with each of the professional groups, briefed them on the details of our Feasibility Study needs, and all have agreed to assist our congregation by providing us with their professional evaluation of potential models and sites. The Real Estate group initially provided the Facility Planning Team with 26 potential sites that were each ranked by Doug, Parker, Ken, and Sam. We then averaged the scores, leaving us with the ten highest scored sites. These ten sites have now been handed over to the Feasibility Study Team, and our professional groups will tour each one, completing a Needs Assessment Questionnaire and providing us with a score for each site. Please see the graphics below to review the projected timeline for the Feasibility Study. You can see the Facility Planning Team has met its June 30 target and is currently awaiting feedback from the Feasibility Study Team professional groups before progressing further. Should you have any questions, please complete the “Connect with Your Owners’ Representatives” form at the top of this page, and we will respond to your inquiry as soon as we can. Respectfully submitted, Parker Johnson Sam Smalldon See detailed process steps and milestones in the graphic below.

Greetings – The Facility Planning Team has now received approval from both the Congregation at our Business Meeting on March 18, 2018 and from World Church on April 10, 2018 under the current World Church Capital Pause Policy based on our Mission Imperative, to proceed with our Feasibility Study as presented and committing up to $50,000 from our Congregation’s Restricted Reserve holding proceeds from sale of the Ranchlands Church. (Minutes from the March 18, 2018 Calgary Congregation Business meeting can be viewed here.) This Feasibility Study is a standard step in due diligence to ensure any project proposal answers all the necessary stewardship model questions and specifically will review the risks of financial or project activities for the project and for the operations of a church home post-construction. (Further details on the Feasibility Study process can be found here.) Thanks to your engagement, the Facility Planning Team has been able to develop and distribute a helpful FAQ document in response to your questions. You are encouraged to continue sending questions, concerns, and/or comments. Responses to questions will be published in future FAQ documents. The Facility Planning Team seeks open and transparent conversation with all stakeholders. As such, a Contact Form has been created on the Building Transition page that connects you directly to the Owners’ Representatives (Parker Johnson and Sam Smalldon). If you have any questions or concerns, please fill out the Contact Form and a team member will respond directly to you as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued support, and please don’t hesitate to connect with us via the Building Transition page. Onward! The realtors have been very proactive with their searches and have already spoken with members of the Property Team several times. Thanks to the diligence of our architects in Step 3, we have a clear wish list for our realtors to work from. This list reflects your input on what you'd like in a facility, so rest assured your voice continues to be at the table.
Next week, the realtors and several members of the Property Team will meet to finalize the contract and begin site visits. Please continue to hold those tasked with the building transition in your thoughts and prayers. Questions? Contact Parker Johnson at parker@communityofchrist.ca. On Saturday, December 9, 2017, the Calgary congregation met to review the general model that was put together by our architect, Robert Pashuk Architecture (RPA). Jeffrey Riedl was there to represent the firm. Canada West Mission Centre President, Steve Thompson, also made the trip from Edmonton to participate. The general model that was presented by RPA is the direct result of the congregation's wishes. (This information was captured in the Building Transition Survey that took place in December 2016.) The Property Team met on several occasions with the firm to ensure the congregation's wishes were reflected in the overall layout and design that was presented, and those in attendance on Saturday seemed to be energized by the visual representation of their feedback. After the presentation, attendees had the opportunity to directly engage the architect as well as Parker Johnson and other congregational leaders in a Q&A discussion. Much conversation revolved around details such as spatial needs, acoustics, curb appeal, handicap accessibility, location, etc. Many wonderful ideas were contributed by those in attendance...thank you! With the December 9 meeting behind us, we have now progressed to (Phase I) Step 4: Engage Realtor. We will again be partnering with Royal LePage Solutions' Julie Stefan and Gary Yip, the same team that so greatly assisted us with the sale of our beloved Ranchlands facility. As we move ahead with the acquisition of a new home for our congregation, it is imperative that we strategically partner with those who best understand our needs and wants: our architect and realtors are certainly those people! I've updated the process map below to indicate our progress in the planning phase. Questions? Contact Parker Johnson at parker@communityofchrist.ca. Step 3; Property Team Meets with Robert Pashuk Architecture to Discuss Facility Needs Assessment11/24/2017 On Friday, November 24, 2017, the Property Team met with Robert Pashuk Architecture (RPA) to review the Facility Needs Assessment that was provided to us by the firm. This was done ahead of the upcoming Saturday, December 9, 2017 Building Transition Business Meeting to be held at Lions Village in our usual meeting place.
The purpose of the November 24 meeting was to review the document in question in order to ensure all parties understood the mandate provided to us by the congregation. This was a very successful meeting, and we are excited for you to meet the firm at our upcoming meeting when they present their conceptual design to us. I've included this document on the right under "Important Information and Documents" for your convenience. Questions? Contact Parker Johnson at parker@communityofchrist.ca. Saturday, Dec. 9 |

In September 2017, the Property team provided the architectural firm with the results of the congregational needs analysis, and the firm subsequently provided us with a program matrix outlining the recommended square footage, parking and design requirements, etc. in October 2017.
On Monday, October 30, 2017, the Property Team met to discuss our formal recommendations to the architect regarding the program matrix we'd received. This information was returned to the firm today, November 1, 2017, to be considered in the preliminary conceptual model in the coming weeks.
This is a major step forward in the process for the congregation. Once we receive the preliminary conceptual model, we will present this back to the congregation for input. This model will give us a concrete example of the type of space we'd like to secure that can be provided to the realtors.
As more details become available, we will share those with you. On behalf of the Property Team, thank you for entrusting us with this task. We'd ask for your continued prayers and support as we move forward with the process.
