An International Advent Celebration

We invite you to “How Far to Bethlehem?,” an Advent service at 7 p.m. Central Time on December 8 in the Temple in Independence, Missouri, USA. Join us in person or online.

Congregations and individuals around the world have prepared hymns, readings, and prayers for this service. A social media wall in the Temple sanctuary will share questions and comments  from those in the sanctuary and those taking part in the live-streamed event.

From the Augsburg, Germany congregation, “Silent Night, Holy Night”/“Stille Nacht, heilige Nacht” will be performed in its original German. Offertory music from the church in Zambia, plus “Gloria in Excelsis Deo” from the Dominican Republic, and an original Christmas hymn by a French Polynesian choir will celebrate the season in song. Former presiding evangelist Dave Brock of Redmond, Oregon, will bring the homily.   

Jan Kraybill, organist-in-residence, will play the Temple’s Casavant organ with its 5,685 pipes to accompany hymns sung by worshipers, including “Hope Is a Light,” “Canticle of the Turning,” “Go Tell It on the Mountain,” and “Joy to the World.”
