Reminder that there will be no church this Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018. A note from Pastor Doug Hayden: "There will be no church service on Sunday, December 30, 2018, due to the high number of people that will be out of town, the difficulty in finding people available to lead the service, and the opportunity it allows for the few people that are in town to spend extra time that weekend with family and guests."

From Pastor Doug Hayden The Calgary Congregation has frequently supported other non-profit organizations at Christmas time in our city. We specifically target efforts that assist the vulnerable to make their lives a little brighter at Christmas, which is a particularly difficult time for the vulnerable and poor. This year the Salvation Army is having trouble filling the demand for unwrapped gifts for children and have a demand for gifts for 3000 families. The particular age groups they are short for are 10-14 year old and babies.
We invite members of the congregation that wish to help to bring gifts to church Sunday December 16th, or to donate cash which will be used to purchase gifts on your behalf. You can also etransfer money to dhayden@shaw.ca and Doug will direct your funds for this program. We will take all the gifts collected to a collection site Monday December 17th. You may donate directly to the Salvation Army, but there does not appear to be a specific option on their website to donate specifically to this program. If you have any questions please contact Doug at 403-615-1624. This morning's Advent service was so fun! Yes...FUN! Thanks to the talent of our youth and Naomi Moor's creativity, we enjoyed a fun drama that left us all smiling while learning more about the scriptures. We also heard personal stories about how some prepare for the holiday season. Special thanks to all who were involved in today's worship experience. We appreciate your contributions! An Advent service at 7 p.m. CST (6 p.m. MST) Dec. 9 in the Community of Christ Temple, Independence, Missouri, USA, will be webcast on www.CofChrist.org and the Community of Christ Facebook page.
The audience has been invited to sing along with the Independence Messiah Choir during the event. Jack Ergo will direct the Handel classic. Organist Jan Kraybill will accompany the singers on the Temple’s 5,685-pipe Casavant organ. The event continues a 100-year-plus Independence tradition of annual “Messiah” performances. The inspiring Temple sanctuary will be the backdrop and the concert will include classic Christmas hymns. A freewill offering will be accepted. |
