Please make a note of two events that are significant in the life of Community of Christ:

1 December: Giving Tuesday is an event aimed at the online community, a reminder to share generously with the church, specifically through CanadaHelps. (Visit our Give Page to learn how you can donate.) Throughout the day the Communications Team will post a running total in social media and on CofChrist.org. Matching funds will be available again this year.

6 December: Advent! This free online service with special music is open to all and will include participation from many locations. Join us for this message of the holiday season.

International Day of Nonviolence

10/1/2020

On 2 October, Community of Christ and the United Nations will observe the International Day of Nonviolence. The day was established 15 June, 2007, chosen because it was the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of nonviolence.

Community of Christ members are urged to join Daily Prayer for Peace.

“God is calling for a prophetic community to emerge, drawn from the nations of the world, that is characterized by uncommon devotion to the compassion and peace of God revealed in Jesus Christ.”   —Doctrine and Covenants 163:11a

Discerning Our Future

10/1/2020

On Sunday, September 27, Canadian Apostle Art Smith gave a sermon to the Beyond the Walls Congregation, inviting Community of Christ in Canada to begin a discernment process as we contemplate what matters most and how God is calling us to be a Community of Christ in 21st century Canada. We normally talk to the ministers at the conclusion of our Beyond the Walls service. Due to technical difficulties, that conversation was cut short on Sunday. Toronto Congregation Pastor John Hamer and Apostle Art Smith resumed the dialogue today, considering the invitation and challenges before us.

Please enjoy the archived live interview below.

Please watch the video above at your earliest convenience and complete the brief (5 question) survey below sharing your perspectives on this topic.

If you are a delegate, or just personally interested in the business of the mission centre, you will need to be part of the Pre-Legislative Session and the full Business Meeting on Saturday morning and afternoon. If you are interested in knowing more about what “Creating Connection” is all about in CWM, there will be sessions on Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon that you will not want to miss. On Friday evening there will be a presentation and discussion of current and expected changes in the church as raised in a recent article by President Veazey entitled, “Metamorphosis.” You will have a chance to get to know our guest minister, Joey Williams, in a session on Saturday evening, and then when he offers ministry as our speaker for our mission-centre-wide worship service on Sunday morning hosted by Beyond the Walls.

Finally, members in Alberta and Saskatchewan will want to be a part of the Hills of Peace Campground Association “All-Members Annual General Meeting” on Wednesday evening.
Watch for details about logon information in the week that events get underway.

Successful Site Tours Receive Positive Feedback

9/3/2020

The Facility Team hosted two successful site tours for congregation. We had nearly 20 individuals come through the promising lease space, providing us with helpful input and support for the location and architect's concept designs.

If you haven't already, please review the architect's concept designs below as well as the architect’s concept floor plan here. These designs were inspired by the congregation's input over the years through needs analyses, discussion groups, and presentations.
FOR THOSE UNABLE TO ATTEND THE SITE VISITS

For those out of town or otherwise unable to make it to the in-person site visits, please view the video walk-through recorded by Parker Johnson below. Please contact him at parker@communityofchrist.ca or by phone at 403-589-5383 if you have any questions.
Special thanks to all those who stopped by and/or watched the video and provided feedback. We are excited about the possibilities this space offers.

Join Us: Site Visit this Saturday (10 a.m. - Noon)

8/26/2020

After an extensive search with nearly 50 sites considered, the Facility Team is excited to invite you to visit a promising lease space this Saturday, August 29 between 10 a.m. – Noon to get a feel for the facility and the surrounding area. Our realtor, Julie Stefan, Pastor Doug Hayden, and Parker Johnson will be on site to answer your questions and will also have concept designs (provided to us by our architect) available to help you get a better sense of how the space could become our own. This is a come-and-go event. Come when you are able.

Here are the details for this weekend’s site visit:

WHERE: 422 11 Ave SE, Calgary, AB T2G 0Y4 (Google Maps link:
https://goo.gl/maps/PJ5Rq2yetYVsdk3p9)
WHEN: Saturday, August 29 between 10 a.m. – Noon

IMPORTANT

In order to remain in compliance with provincial, municipal, and World Church guidelines, we will be enforcing the following measures:

  • Anyone who feels unwell or uncomfortable should not attend.
  • Maintain ~6 ft. of distance between individuals with whom you are not isolating with.
  • No hugging/touching, passing around objects, etc. between non-family members or between individuals who are not isolating together.
  • Masks are required indoors.

In order to accommodate a variety of schedules, this is the first of what will be two site visits. Another group site visit will be scheduled in the near future. If you are out of town and will not be able to attend any site visit in the near future or if you are not able to/comfortable with attending an in-person gathering like this, please contact Parker Johnson at parker@communityofchrist.ca and he can provide you with a virtual walk-through video of the space being considered.

As is the Facility Team’s mandate, we bring this site to the congregation for their input. No agreements will be made without congregational approval at a formal business meeting.

This is an exciting time in the life of our congregation as we enter into a new phase in our building transition. Since 2017, Calgary’s Facility Team has worked alongside the congregation to locate an ideal space that best meets the needs of the congregation. Needs analyses were conducted, presentations were given, and casual check-ins with the congregation throughout the process provided valuable feedback to ensure the mandate was clear, reasonable, and focused. Work has continued despite the COVID-19 pandemic which has put us in a better position with negotiations.

Should you have any questions, please contact Parker Johnson at
 parker@communityofchrist.ca.

We look forward to seeing you there!

With excitement,

Doug Hayden
Pastor, Calgary Community of Christ
